About True Life Canvas Academy
Owner and Lead trainer, Hayley Shortridge-Gabriel, has worked full time in permanent cosmetics since 2012 and has a background in professional art. You can feel her passion for what she does and the desire to teach others to have the same impact on their client’s lives.
We want our students to leave class with the confidence knowing they were properly trained, which why our Hands-On + Online Fundamental course includes: practicing on fake skin, color theory, multiple brow methods (including 3D hair strokes), procedure room setup and tear down, two live models, proper paperwork, a goodie bag of supplies, and more!
For 2023, we are offering both Fundamental classes and various Advanced courses in beautiful Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

EYEBROW FUNDAMENTALS OF PERMANENT COSMETICS
We have a holistic approach to our academy wanting to not only train you with the best techniques and products, but also equip you with business tools and marketing advice to see you succeed at starting your own exciting career in just one week!
This class includes an online course that goes over the theory and education for permanent makeup brows using a machine, and then hands-on training in multiple brow methods including: 3D Hair strokes, Powdered Brows and Combo Brows (combination of hair strokes and powdered). Class also includes:
- Working with different machines
- Multiple brow methods (including 3D hair strokes)
- How to measure and design a good brow
- Practicing on fake skin
- Practice with TWO live models
- Skin anatomy
- Color theory
- OSHA standards
- Procedure room setup and tear down
- Taking Before/After photos
- Proper client paperwork
- Getting your business set up

During class you will work on 2 Live models with constant observation and coaching from your trainer at all times.

BROW MACHINE CROSSOVER CLASS
Already know microblading and want to learn machine work? Or just looking for a refresher course, so you can be the very best for your clients with continued education?
Our Machine Crossover Class includes a live demonstration, multiple brow methods, one live model, and a goodie bag!
LASH ENHANCEMENT TECHNIQUE
Help your clients save time getting ready in the morning with truly waterproof eyeliner! This class is available as an Add-On for our Brow Fundamental Students or as a standalone course for existing PMU artists.
Class includes live demonstration, facial analysis, color theory, multiple needle techniques, stretching, one live model, and a goodie bag!
PERMANENT LIPS TECHNIQUE
Maybelline has nothing on the long lasting power of permanent cosmetics! This technique can help create a defined lip shape and there are so many color options out there to meet your clients’ unique needs.
Class includes live demonstration, facial analysis, color theory, needle choice, stretching, one live model, and a goodie bag!
3D AREOLA TECHNIQUE
In the USA, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime. With this technique we can use our skills to help survivors restore what once was lost.
For this advanced paramedical tattooing class we offer both an online course and a hands-on training option.

Permanent cosmetic techniques for eyebrows are now known by several names including but not limited to; microstroking, microblading, eyebrow embroidery, eyebrow feathering, and 3D eyebrows. Although the names differ, the results are the same; beautiful and natural looking tattooed hairstrokes. Both techniques can accommodate different needle configurations needed to implement custom tailored permanent cosmetics. Both techniques are ideal for filling in sparse areas of the natural eyebrow, either by powdering or hairstroke, where hair isn’t present as well as adding to already full brows. These procedures also help to define and enhance the brow shape. The best possible healed results from any procedure requires strict adherence to aftercare instructions.

No prerequisites required and you can actually start a new career in a week! Permanent Cosmetics falls under a unique categorization of body tattooing and therefore no further education is required as a prerequisite to be certified in Idaho. It is recommended you look into your state laws and regulations for applying for your license and for business operation (i.e. required to work on a non-porous surface, quick access to running water, etc).

Obviously this profession is not suited for everyone. Take into consideration if you have good hand/eye coordination or not. If there are physical limitations you are concerned about please feel free to talk to Hayley about those concerns.
